Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Good to Walk (goodtowalk.co.uk) is a free UK dog walking weather safety tool. You can contact us at info@goodtowalk.co.uk.
2. What data we collect
When you perform a walk check, we record the following anonymous data on our servers to help us understand how the service is used and improve it:
- Location name — the place name returned for your search (e.g. "Malvern Hills"). We do not record your GPS coordinates or postcode.
- Temperature & safety outcome — the current temperature and the safety rating returned (e.g. "good to walk", "take care").
- Dog profile — your dog's size, breed type, age, and health status, plus a yes/no flag indicating whether the profile is saved on your device. This information is anonymous and contains no personally identifiable data.
- Date & time — when the check was made.
We do not record your IP address, GPS coordinates, or any information that personally identifies you alongside these check logs.
- If you choose to save your dog's profile using the "Remember my dog" option, that data is stored in a cookie on your device. Each time you run a check, your dog's anonymous profile details (size, breed type, age, health) are included in the check log alongside the safety outcome.
- Contact form submissions are sent directly to our email address and are used only to respond to your enquiry.
- If you accept cookies, Google Analytics collects anonymised usage data (pages visited, session duration, device type, approximate location). This data is processed by Google and used only to understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
3. Cookies & local storage
We use the following cookies and browser storage:
- gtw_consent — a first-party entry in
localStoragethat records your cookie consent choice (accepted or declined). Set immediately on your first visit. - gtw_dog — an optional first-party cookie that stores your dog's profile on your device if you tick "Remember my dog's profile". Each time you run a check, your dog's anonymous profile details (size, breed type, age, health) are sent to our servers as part of the anonymous check log — no personally identifiable information is included. You can clear this cookie at any time in your browser settings.
- Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) — if you accept cookies, Google Analytics 4 (property ID: G-DEKHT49E6L) sets these cookies to distinguish users and sessions. They collect anonymised usage data to help us understand how the site is used. These are third-party cookies governed by Google's privacy policy.
You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
